Local AI GPU Comparisons: Consumer, Workstation and Data-Center Paths

Single-card profile: read the RTX 4070 SUPER 12GB local-AI guide for capacity-first model fit.

Single-card profile: read the RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB local-AI guide for capacity-first model fit.

Use this local-AI GPU comparison directory when you already know the two hardware paths you need to separate. Start with memory fit and software support, then compare the complete system. Published capacity, bandwidth or AI TOPS alone does not establish local-LLM speed.

Choose the comparison family

  • 12GB–32GB desktop GPUs: compare generation, capacity, power and used-card risk.
  • 32GB–96GB workstation/server GPUs: separate active workstation cards from passive accelerators, ECC, NVLink and software support.
  • Compact high-memory systems: compare dedicated VRAM with unified system memory and x86 with Arm64 or Metal/MLX.
  • 80GB–288GB data-center accelerators: verify form factor, host, cooling, partitioning and complete deployed cost.

Data-center and frontier accelerator comparisons

How to use a comparison without fooling yourself

  1. Verify the exact model repository, revision, quantization and projector or adapter.
  2. Calculate weights, KV cache, runtime workspace, context, batch and concurrency—not just parameter count.
  3. Confirm the runtime supports the exact GPU architecture, operating system and CPU architecture.
  4. Separate dedicated VRAM, shared unified memory and aggregate multi-GPU memory.
  5. Compare complete deployable systems, including host, cooling, power, storage, warranty and return terms.
  6. Use matched benchmark records for speed; specifications establish constraints, not measured rankings.
