Intel Arc Pro B50 vs B60 for Local AI: 16GB or 24GB?

Short answer: choose Intel Arc Pro B50 when a low-profile, slot-powered 70W card and 16GB capacity are the hard constraints. Choose B60 when a single 24GB device is worth a larger partner board, more power and a separate connector/PSU check. B60’s extra memory changes which model files can fit; its higher core count and bandwidth still do not prove application speed.

The decision is capacity plus deployment: B50 is a defined compact reference card. B60 is a partner-design family with a 120–200W range. Verify the exact board and software stack, not only the GPU label.

The 16GB-versus-24GB model-file boundary

Official Qwen2.5-32B GGUF files show where B60’s extra 8GB changes the answer. Margins are file-only and exclude KV cache, runtime workspace, allocator behavior, display use, context, modality and concurrency.

For a 14B workload, B50 can be a practical capacity tier with more working room than this 32B table suggests. Use the 14B requirements guide and the 32B requirements guide to calculate the complete allocation.

Choose B50 when

  • Low-profile, half-height/half-length fit is required.
  • Slot power and a 70W board envelope matter more than the 24GB ceiling.
  • The complete workload fits safely inside 16GB.
  • The exact Intel backend and application path have been validated.

Choose B60 when

  • The workload needs more than 16GB but fits safely inside 24GB.
  • The exact partner board, connector, PSU, cooling and chassis fit are acceptable.
  • A controlled test justifies its additional compute and bandwidth.
  • The 120–200W configuration and delivered system price meet the target.

Software support remains a separate gate

Both are Xe2 Arc Pro products with Intel oneAPI, OpenVINO, IPEX, Vulkan and OpenCL support claims. Upstream llama.cpp documents Arc B-Series support, but its verified-device examples are not a guarantee for every Arc Pro SKU, build, quantization or operator. Pin the driver, oneAPI release, application commit, backend, flags and precision, then validate output correctness and fallback behavior.

How to compare them fairly

  1. Use the same model revision, quantization, context, cache, prompt/output profile, batch and concurrency.
  2. Record the exact board, power limit, connector, cooling, display use and PCIe link.
  3. Pin OS, driver, oneAPI release, application commit, backend and build flags.
  4. Record exposed and peak device memory, host memory, fallback/offload and load success.
  5. Measure time to first token, prompt processing, generation, wall power and output correctness over repeated runs.

Load the exact B50 and B60 starters separately. Each stages only hardware, capacity and topology prompts.
