Short answer: Intel Arc Pro B70 provides 32GB of dedicated GDDR6 ECC memory on Intel’s larger Xe2 workstation GPU. That capacity can hold more 32B quantized artifacts and runtime headroom than a 24GB card, but it does not guarantee that a particular SYCL, OpenVINO, Vulkan or PyTorch workload is supported or correct. Current upstream llama.cpp reports include working B70 runs alongside open B70-specific regressions and correctness bugs, so pin and test the exact build.
Check capacity and software separately: calculate the full allocation with the hardware recommender, then reproduce the required model on the intended OS, Intel driver, oneAPI/runtime build, backend and precision before buying.
Official Intel Arc Pro B70 specifications
| Official specification | Arc Pro B70 | Local-AI planning meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Microarchitecture | Xe2 | Use current Intel drivers and a compatible application backend |
| Dedicated memory | 32GB GDDR6 ECC | Weights, cache, workspace, display use and concurrency share capacity |
| Memory interface / bandwidth | 256-bit / 608GB/s | Published bandwidth is not a token-rate measurement |
| Xe-cores / XMX engines | 32 / 256 | Counts cannot be normalized directly against another architecture |
| Graphics / maximum dynamic clock | 2,280MHz / 2,800MHz | Sustained behavior depends on board, power and workload |
| Board power | 230W Intel card; 160–290W range | Confirm the exact provider board and power limit |
| PCIe configuration | PCIe 5.0 x16 | Verify slot wiring and multi-GPU spacing |
| Intel reference dimensions | 10.5 × 3.9 inches; two slots | Provider boards can differ |
| Intel reference connector | One ATX 2×4 8-pin | Confirm PSU and connector requirements for the actual board |
| Published APIs | oneAPI, OpenVINO, IPEX, Vulkan 1.3, OpenCL 3.0 | API support is not blanket workload compatibility |
Exact 32B file boundaries on 32GB
Official Qwen2.5-32B-Instruct-GGUF repository sizes establish file-only capacity boundaries. Margins exclude KV cache, runtime workspace, temporary buffers, display use, modality, context and concurrency.
| Official artifact | Displayed size | 32GB file-only margin | Planning result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q2_K | 12.3GB | 19.7GB | Capacity fits; validate quality and complete allocation |
| Q3_K_M | 15.9GB | 16.1GB | Substantial nominal room remains |
| Q4_K_M | 19.9GB | 12.1GB | More runtime headroom than a 24GB pool |
| Q5_K_M | 23.3GB | 8.7GB | Calculate cache, workspace and context before claiming fit |
| Q6_K | 26.9GB | 5.1GB | Capacity-sensitive; measure peak resident memory |
| Q8_0 | 34.8GB | Does not fit wholly | Requires offload, another artifact or more capacity |

B70 software support is actively changing
Intel publishes oneAPI, OpenVINO and Intel Extension for PyTorch support. Upstream llama.cpp users have documented B70 runs on Linux and Windows, but recent open issues also report build-specific correctness failures, Flash Attention failures and performance regressions. Treat those reports as version-specific evidence, not a verdict on every build. Record commit, driver, oneAPI version, build flags, backend, precision and any workaround; test output correctness before measuring speed.
Single- and multi-GPU checks
- Verify the exact B70 board, 32GB runtime-visible capacity, ECC state, clocks and power limit.
- Confirm connector, PSU, cooling, slot clearance and PCIe x16 link.
- For two cards, report peer path, tensor/layer split and peak memory per device.
- Do not describe two 32GB cards as one automatic 64GB pool.
- Validate output correctness before comparing prompt processing or generation rates.
Measure a reproducible workload
Hold model revision, quantization, runtime commit, build flags, backend, kernels, context, cache precision, prompt/output profile, batch, concurrency and timing definition constant. Record exposed memory, per-device peak, host fallback/offload, system RAM, wall power, failures and output correctness. Use the controlled workload method.
