New Local AI GPU Comparison Directory: 48 Decision Paths

HighVRAM now has one directory for moving between 48 local-AI hardware comparisons without treating memory labels or peak specifications as benchmark results. The new Local AI GPU Comparisons page groups desktop GPUs, workstation and server cards, compact high-memory systems and data-center accelerators by the decision each comparison isolates.

What the directory covers

PathExamplesQuestion to settle first
Consumer and desktopRTX 3090 vs 4090 vs 5090; 16GB generation comparisonsDoes the complete workload fit the device-local memory ceiling?
Workstation and serverRTX 5090 vs RTX PRO 6000; A40, A6000, Ada, L40S, A100 and H100 pairsDo you need active workstation integration or a qualified passive server?
Compact high-memory systemsDGX Spark alternatives; Mac Studio and RTX comparisonsDoes the required software support shared memory, Arm64 CUDA or Metal/MLX?
Data-center and frontierH100 vs H200 vs B200 vs B300; AMD Instinct cross-vendor pathsWhat exact form factor, host, cooling, partitioning and deployment boundary applies?
The linked guides use manufacturer specifications and explicit model-fit arithmetic. They do not substitute specifications for controlled benchmarks.

Why this is a directory, not a ranking

A universal ranking would hide the decisions that usually determine whether a local-AI system works at all. A 24GB desktop card, a 128GB shared-memory system and a 141GB passive accelerator have different memory models, host requirements, software paths, power scopes and purchase boundaries. The directory starts with those constraints and routes to the narrow comparison that preserves them.

Turn a comparison into evidence

  1. Choose the pair in the comparison directory.
  2. Use the memory calculator to define the model, quantization, context and headroom.
  3. Inspect the benchmark database for a genuinely comparable record.
  4. If the evidence is missing, build a reproducible benchmark submission with exact hardware, software and timing fields.
