Intel Arc Pro B70 32GB vs RTX 5090 32GB for Local AI

Short answer: Intel Arc Pro B70 and GeForce RTX 5090 both provide 32GB of dedicated memory, so the same model artifact has the same nominal file-only margin. RTX 5090 is the safer path when an application requires CUDA or its NVIDIA implementation is materially more mature. B70 is a current workstation alternative when the exact oneAPI/OpenVINO/SYCL or Vulkan path is verified and its lower published power range, ECC support or professional features matter.

Same capacity is not the same product: software support, measured behavior, power delivery, cooling, form factor, warranty and delivered price remain separate gates.

The shared 32GB model-file boundary

Official Qwen2.5-32B-Instruct-GGUF display sizes produce identical file-only arithmetic on either card. Margins exclude KV cache, runtime workspace, temporary buffers, display use, context, modality, concurrency and allocator behavior.

Use the 32B requirements guide to plan cache and runtime overhead. Identical arithmetic does not mean equal allocation behavior or speed.

Choose Arc Pro B70 when

  • Your exact application path is verified on the selected Intel driver and backend.
  • ECC support or workstation features matter.
  • The 230W Intel-card point or another qualified 160–290W design improves the system plan.
  • Measured results meet the target at a better complete deployed cost.

Choose RTX 5090 when

  • The application, extension or operator requires CUDA.
  • Your runtime has a materially more mature NVIDIA path.
  • Measured performance justifies 575W reference power and the supporting system.
  • The exact board, compliant PSU, connectors, cooling and chassis are resolved.

Power and platform cost

NVIDIA specifies 1,000W required system power for its RTX 5090 Founders Edition reference configuration and notes that requirements vary. Intel specifies 230W for its B70 card and a 160–290W range. Do not turn those figures into an energy-cost claim without matched complete-system measurements. Include any required PSU, cable, chassis, cooling and host upgrades in delivered cost.

How to compare them fairly

  1. Use the same model revision, quantization, context, cache, prompt/output profile, batch and concurrency.
  2. Pin OS, driver, runtime, application commit, backend and flags; validate output correctness.
  3. Record exact board, power limit, clocks, temperatures, cooling, display use and PCIe link.
  4. Record host RAM/swap, peak device and host memory, fallback/offload and load success.
  5. Measure TTFT, prompt processing, generation, failures and wall energy. Do not normalize results when placement differs.

Load the existing B70 and RTX 5090 starters separately, then preserve every matched condition.

Compare current observations without changing your saved watchlist. Select B70 and RTX 5090 manually.
